WHY I LOVE TO HELP PEOPLE WITH WEIGHT LOSS – MY STORY

I’ve ummed and aahed about whether I should write this blog – I’m a private person and aware that I need to maintain a ‘professional’ image – however, we are living in 2018 – and what is important is transparency in business and making authentic connections with those lovely people I help.

On too many occasions to count over the past 11 years – I’ve had weight loss NHS and private clients ‘judge’ me – and tell me to my face. “You couldn’t possibility understand!”

 

 

A few times I’ve came home and cried my eyes out as the comments were nasty. 

 

 

I’m very intuitive – this is why I’m so good at helping people – and I’m sensitive and it hurt to be judged and have someone dump their frustrations on to me – when I desire to help so much.  

 

 

Yet the joy I get from helping my amazing clients who value my help and see their lives changes – is worth it!

 

 

Just a few weeks ago, I overheard a female colleague who was overweight say to male colleague (they didn’t know I overheard them) – “look at her – typical – stick thin dietitian” – and he said – “well – she must follow her own advice”.

 

 

Her comment inspired me to do this email to you.

 

 

I’ve never had body fat levels outside the healthy range (they’ve always been between 25-31%) – so I don’t know how it feels to be have body fat in the overweight or obesity range (note: 39% this is cut off from overweight to obesity).

 

 

I’d love to share why I feel I’m the perfect person to be a weight loss coach.

 

 

I can remember my mother had a habit of not eating all day (she said she didn’t have time) – she’s come in at the end of the day exhausted, moody with a headache – and then cook dinner and then overeat. 

 

 

She would diet – she didn’t have a healthy relationship with food – she struggled with food and her body image.  My sister was put on a diet and she struggled with her weight – because of the dieting – she was never overweight as a teenager.  My father, a brother, aunts, uncles and cousins have struggled with their weight.

 

 

My lovely Nana – suffered with obesity and she lost strength in body because of the disease.  She died on my birthday about 5 years ago – I’ll never forget that day – I’d baked with love this gorgeous Victoria sponge cake with butter cream filling – I felt very sad and there was a strong urge to stuff this entire cake in my mouth – and you know if I did do that I would have never have even tasted it. 

 

 

So I took a deep breath and cut it up – and gave it all away to my neighbours.  I let the tears out – then my friend took me to Biggin Hill Air Show.

 

 

Environment is powerful – we are influenced so strongly by who’s around us – especially when we are children.  

 

 

I feel proud that despite the conditioning – I made a decision to think differently.  

 

 

In my teens, 20’s and thirties – I worked a lot of changing my ‘inner self talk’ and ‘dieting mindset’ as believe me, it was there – especially when I got divorced in 2010.

 

 

Every day I work on my relationship with food, by body and exercise – and right now at 41 years, I feel so happy with it.  

 

 

I love to help women and men understand how to have healthy body fat without dieting so you can have high energy, no problems with food cravings and be the person you want to be.  

 

 

My unique gift is that despite my environment and habits I learnt from my parents, I’ve never struggled with my weight – because I made a decision not to and I’ve worked at it everyday over the past 20 years.

 

 

I’ve also researched the nearly 6,000 people I’ve had consultations with – and they’ve taught me very valuable information.
